30 Heller

Sankt Georgen im Attergau is a small market town on the western shore of the Attersee in Upper Austria. This 30 Heller note is a Notgeld issue — emergency small-change currency produced by Austrian municipalities between roughly 1919 and 1921 to address a severe shortage of coins following the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system. The imperial Heller coinage had effectively vanished from circulation; hoarding, metal shortages, and wartime disruption had stripped small denominations from everyday commerce entirely.

Hundreds of Austrian Gemeinden printed their own Notgeld during this period, and many commissioned locally decorative designs. Jaksc 0888 catalogs only a handful of denominations for this issuer.
