30 Euros Rudolf Maister

Rudolf Maister is one of the more consequential figures most numismatists outside the region have never heard of. In November 1918, acting largely on his own initiative and without explicit government authorization, the Austro-Hungarian general-turned-Slovenian commander seized Maribor and its surrounding region before Yugoslav delegations had secured it diplomatically — a fait accompli that determined where the post-WWI border between Slovenia and Austria would ultimately fall. The Paris Peace Conference largely ratified what Maister had already decided on the ground.

The 2024 issue marks the centenary-plus-six of those events, timed instead to Maister's birth year of 1874.
