Matija Jama (1872–1947) was among the most prominent Slovenian Impressionist painters, closely associated with the so-called Slovenian Impressionist quartet alongside Rihard Jakopič, Ivan Grohar, and Fran Tratnik. The Bank of Slovenia has issued commemorative pieces honoring figures from Slovenian cultural history with some regularity since independence, and Jama — whose plein-air landscapes defined a generation of national painting — fits squarely within that program.
