| 正面描述 | Conjoined busts of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia facing left, with the Queen's effigy in the foreground and the King's partially overlapping behind. The legend FELIPE VI Y LETIZIA arcs along the upper rim, while ESPAÑA and the date 2021 are inscribed along the lower rim, separated by a fleur-de-lis ornament. A beaded border frames the entire design. The effigies are rendered in a refined, contemporary portrait style against a polished mirror field. |

The Xacobeo — or Holy Year of Compostela — occurs whenever July 25th, the feast of Saint James, falls on a Sunday. It happens roughly every five to six years, though the interval is irregular. The 2021 edition was unprecedented: the COVID-19 pandemic forced Spanish authorities to extend the official Xacobeo across two calendar years, the first such extension in the pilgrimage's recorded history, which is why this coin bears both dates.
Spain has issued commemorative coinage for Xacobeo years since at least 1993, when the event coincided with Madrid's year as European Capital of Culture and the Seville Expo.
