Additional information

Prekmurje — the strip of Slovenian-speaking territory east of the Mur River — spent centuries under Hungarian administration and was only attached to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in August 1919, following the post-WWI Paris Peace Conference settlements. The transfer was formalized on August 12th of that year, making 2019 the centenary the coin commemorates.

The region's long separation from other Slovenian-speaking lands owed largely to the Battle of Lechfeld in 955, after which the Pannonian frontier consolidated under Hungarian rather than Frankish control.
