Opmerkingen

The Banco Nacional Ultramarino issued this denomination specifically for Portuguese Guinea — one of several parallel series it maintained across Portugal's African territories during the 1950s, each nominally distinct but sharing much of the same De La Rue printing infrastructure. The 30 escudo value was an unusual choice, sitting awkwardly between more conventional denominations, likely calibrated to local wage and trade conditions rather than any standard metropolitan template.

Thomas De La Rue's involvement was long-standing across BNU's colonial issues, and the quality of intaglio work on this series is generally consistent. Watermark-only security reflects the period norm for lower-circulation colonial notes rather than any cost-cutting specific to this issue.
