| Obverse description | The field depicts a detailed view of the medieval ruins of Bettancourt-la-Ferrée, featuring a prominent square masonry tower at centre, flanked by the remnants of fortified walls and an archway to the right, with a waterwheel visible in the lower right field and additional ruined structures to the left, all set against a landscape background. The engraving, executed by Nicolas Salagnac, renders the architectural elements in fine relief with a picturesque, antiquarian style. A raised circular border frames the design, with the legend 'BETTANCOURT LA FERREE' arcing along the upper periphery and 'S.L.O. COLLECTIONS' along the lower, each separated by lozenge stops. |

| Additional information |
Bettancourt-la-Ferrée is a small commune in the Haute-Marne department, and this piece belongs to the wave of locally-issued écu denominations that proliferated across French municipalities in the early-to-mid 1990s. The movement capitalized on Article 12 of the 1992 Maastricht Treaty negotiations, during which French regional identity politics briefly made local currency-adjacent tokens both commercially viable and politically resonant. S.L.O. Collections was among several private firms that contracted with communes to produce these issues, handling distribution and striking arrangements while the municipality lent its name and nominal authority.
The series number [52] references the département code for Haute-Marne.
