Aureus Magnus was a Mexico City-based private minting house active in the 1960s that produced high-karat gold pieces aimed squarely at the collector and bullion market surrounding the 1968 Summer Games — the first Olympic Games held in Latin America. The firm operated outside any state monetary authority, making these pieces medals in legal terms despite the "ducat" denomination.
