Opmerkingen

Gold foil notes issued by Caribbean microstates in the early 1980s occupy an odd corner of notaphily — technically legal tender, practically never spent, and aimed squarely at the collector market from the moment of issue. Antigua & Barbuda had gained independence only in November 1981, and these novelty denominations appeared almost immediately, exploiting the new nation's authority to issue currency without any expectation of actual monetary use.

The foil substrate makes cancellation and redemption essentially moot — no central bank seriously anticipated these circulating. Survival rates are high; wear is nearly nonexistent.
