The Principality of Hutt River was a self-declared micronation established in 1970 by Leonard Casley on a wheat farm in Western Australia, following a dispute with the state government over wheat production quotas. Casley proclaimed himself Prince Leonard I and maintained the secession claim — with considerable media novelty but zero legal recognition — for decades. This piece commemorates the diamond wedding anniversary of Leonard and Shirley Casley.
Silver-plated brass at this weight is a collector souvenir by any practical measure. Hutt River issued prolifically for the tourist and novelty market throughout the 2000s.
