30 Dollars - Leonard I

Hutt River Province declared independence from Western Australia in 1970 after a wheat quota dispute pushed farmer Leonard Casley to invoke an obscure legal provision he argued prevented the Crown from resuming his land. The micronation never gained international recognition, but it issued passports, stamps, and coinage with remarkable persistence for decades. This 1977 silver piece is one of the earlier numismatic issues from the province, produced at a time when Casley — styling himself Prince Leonard I — was actively courting collector interest to sustain the operation financially.
