Australia's lunar gold series has been produced by the Perth Mint since 1996, running through two complete twelve-year cycles. The Goat year falls in the second cycle, which carries slightly higher collector premiums than the first due to lower per-issue mintages across several of the animal years. The .9999 fineness — four nines — became the Mint's standard for this series and distinguishes it from the earlier .9990 issues.
