The Snowy Owl series from the Royal Canadian Mint has leaned heavily on ultra-high-relief striking techniques developed in the early 2010s, and this 62.69g piece — one of the heavier issues in the wildlife canon — benefits from that refinement. The .9999 fine silver specification, rather than the more common .999, was a deliberate marketing distinction the RCM began emphasizing aggressively after 2012 to differentiate its bullion-adjacent collector issues from competitors.
Snowy Owls are one of Canada's few owl species active by daylight, which gave the Mint's design team unusual compositional freedom compared to nocturnal subjects.
