The San Pedro was a Spanish vessel wrecked on Bermuda's reefs in 1594, one of dozens of ships lost in waters that made the islands notorious among Atlantic navigators long before English settlement in 1609. Salvage operations on Bermuda's historic wrecks have periodically recovered artifacts that informed modern understanding of late 16th-century Iberian maritime trade routes.
This issue belongs to Bermuda's longstanding shipwreck gold series, which drew sustained collector interest through the 1990s and 2000s by pairing .990 fine gold with specific named vessels rather than generic maritime themes.
