The "Phases of the Moon" series from the Royal Canadian Mint used selective gold plating and a concave die-struck surface to render the lunar curve in three dimensions — a technique the RCM refined through several collector series in the 2010s. The Full Moon issue is the most straightforward of the set visually, but technically the most demanding to strike cleanly, as the fully illuminated concave field leaves no shadowed areas to hide die fatigue or planchet inconsistencies.
The .9999 fineness is notable — finer than the traditional .999 used for most silver bullion, requiring tighter refining tolerances at the Ottawa facility.
