Additional information

Antigua and Barbuda gained full independence from Britain on November 1, 1981, making this 1982 issue one of the first commemorative coinages struck under the new nation's own authority. The $30 denomination was chosen to align with the silver content and prestige tier typical of Franklin Mint–produced Caribbean commemoratives of the period, rather than reflecting any circulating currency reality.

The .500 fineness places this squarely in the Franklin Mint's lower-silver commemorative range of the early 1980s.
