Additional information

Tuvalu's high-denomination gold issues of the late 1990s were struck by the Perth Mint under a licensing arrangement — Tuvalu itself has no mint and negligible domestic coin demand, given a population that has never exceeded 12,000. The 30-dollar face value is essentially nominal, a legal fiction required for the coin to circulate as currency while the gold content drove the actual value.
