Australia's lunar series has run continuously since 1996, making the Year of the Ox the fourth time Perth has struck an Ox issue in that program's history. The 1kg format exists almost entirely for the Chinese investment market, where the lunar animal denomination carries cultural weight well beyond its silver melt value — the Ox year in particular correlating with an uptick in institutional bullion buying that Perth's records from 2021 reflect.
Mintage for this denomination was capped at 888 pieces, the number chosen deliberately for its significance in Chinese numerology.
