Australia's one-kilogram silver Koala series has been issued by the Perth Mint since 1992, with the reverse design changed annually — a deliberate policy to encourage year-on-year collector demand rather than secondary-market melting. The 2018 issue falls under Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, which had been in use since 1998 and was approaching the end of its tenure before Jody Clark's fifth portrait took over on Australian coinage.
