Reverse description A stylised baby dragon depicted in a curled, ouroboros-like pose occupies the central field, its scaled body forming a near-complete circle. The dragon's head is rendered in the lower centre, facing left, with clawed feet visible at lower right. Within the circle formed by the dragon's body is a hexagonal panel bearing the Chinese character 福 (fú, meaning prosperity or good fortune). Flames emerge from the upper left of the design. The denomination $30 appears in the upper left field, the Perth Mint mintmark P is at centre left, the engraver's initials LB are incuse near the dragon's body, and the legend 1/5 oz 9999 GOLD arcs along the upper right periphery.

Additional information

Perth Mint's annual lunar gold series traces its lineage to 1996, making it one of the longer-running bullion programs of the modern era. The "Prosperity" designation within the 2024 lunar cycle is a marketing sub-variant — the core issue is simply the standard one-quarter ounce Year of the Dragon release, identical in specifications to its predecessors in the second and third twelve-year rotations of the series.

Charles III's effigy, by sculptor King Dong-A Wyon, appeared on Australian coinage following the Queen's death in September 2022 — this 2023-dated issue is among the earlier Perth Mint productions to carry it.
