Reverse description The reverse bears a central square hole flanked by two vertically arranged Manchu script characters reading ᠪᠣᠣ ᠰᡠ (Boo-su), the Manchu rendering of the Suzhou Mint name, one word to the left and one to the right of the hole. Above the hole appears the single Chinese character 當 (dang, meaning 'equivalent to'), and below the hole are two Chinese characters 三十 (san shi, meaning 'thirty'), together forming the denomination inscription 當三十 (equivalent to 30 cash). All characters are cast in bold relief against a plain field within a smooth outer rim.
