背面描述 A highly detailed, large-format portrait of an adult Smilodon — the prehistoric saber-toothed cat — dominates the reverse field, rendered in fine engraving with an antique finish. The adult's prominent elongated upper canines are displayed prominently in the lower foreground, and the animal's face fills nearly the entire coin surface with naturalistic musculature and fur texture. A juvenile Smilodon cub nestles closely against the right side of the adult, its head turned toward the viewer with inset amber-colored crystal eyes, as does the adult. The legend 'SMILODON MOTHER & CHILD' arcs along the upper border, while '3 KG AG 999' appears vertically along the left field and the date '2013' is inscribed at the lower left.

附加信息

Burkina Faso has issued coins under the West African CFA franc system since independence in 1960, but the country's numismatic program has increasingly leaned on novelty formats to attract collector markets with no domestic connection to the subjects. A 3-kilogram, 150mm silver piece depicting prehistoric megafauna from ecosystems that never touched sub-Saharan Africa is a product of that strategy — licensed through private minting intermediaries rather than issued through any genuine monetary authority initiative.

The Smilodon genus went extinct roughly 10,000 years ago, confined to the Americas throughout its existence.
