The Twenty-Four Solar Terms series draws on the ancient Chinese lunisolar calendar system formally inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2016. Major Heat — Dàshǔ — marks the hottest period of the agricultural year, historically the point at which Tang and Song dynasty farmers calculated irrigation schedules and pest-control burns. The People's Bank launched this ongoing silver series to coincide with renewed state interest in codifying traditional agrarian knowledge as cultural patrimony rather than merely folk practice.
