China's Panda bullion series launched in 1982, and by 2007 it had become one of the most collected modern bullion programs globally — largely because the Chinese Mint changes the panda design every year, a deliberate policy that drives annual demand from both investors and collectors. This 3 Yuan denomination is unusual; it sits outside the standard bullion weight structure and was issued specifically for the anniversary rather than as part of the regular annual run.
The 3 Yuan face value, pegged to a 1/4 troy ounce-equivalent silver piece, has no practical purchasing power in China and was never intended for circulation.
