The only 3 Yuan denomination ever issued by the People's Republic of China, this note is an outlier in the entire Second Series — no other denomination in Chinese communist currency history carries that value. It was produced entirely by Goznak in Moscow, reflecting the early 1950s Sino-Soviet partnership before relations fractured. China lacked sufficient domestic printing capacity at the time, and several Second Series denominations were contracted to Soviet facilities.
The 3 Yuan was withdrawn relatively early and never reissued in any subsequent series. Circulated examples are considerably more common than uncirculated ones, suggesting heavy use before retirement.
