Obverse description Crowned Portuguese royal shield of arms at center, displaying the five escutcheons arranged in a cross with roundels, surrounded by the castles of the bordure. The royal crown appears above the shield in high relief. The circular Latin legend IOANNES V D G RE PORTVG runs along the periphery, identifying King João V by name and divine right. The overall design is characteristic of the milled Portuguese silver coinage of the early eighteenth century.

Reverse description A bold cross pattée divides the field into four quarters, each containing the letter P, referencing the Porto mint mark. The cross arms extend nearly to the border, creating a strong geometric composition. The circular Latin legend IN HOC SIGNO VINCES — 'In this sign thou shalt conquer' — runs along the periphery, separated by star or cross stops. The design is characteristic of the Ordenação coinage struck at the Porto mint under João V.
