Obverse description Central square hole framed by a raised square border, around which four large Chữ Nôm/Chinese characters are arranged in the traditional four-directional layout: 嗣 (top), 通 (right), 寶 (left), and 德 (bottom), reading 嗣德通寶 — the reign title and denomination legend of Emperor Tự Đức. The characters are rendered in bold relief against a flat field. A raised rim encircles the entire design.

Reverse description Central square hole framed by a raised square border, flanked by decorative naturalistic motifs in relief: a stylized pine or palm tree to the left and a flowering prunus branch to the right, with foliate and wave-like vegetal elements below the central hole. Above the square hole, two large Chinese characters 三壽 (San Shou, meaning 'three longevities' or denoting the denomination three) are prominently rendered in bold relief. A wide raised rim borders the entire reverse.
