Reverse description King Gustavus Adolphus, clad in full armor and holding a Bible in one hand and a drawn sword in the other, rides in a triumphal chariot drawn by three winged horses trampling the multi-headed Hydra of Discord beneath the chariot wheel. To the left stands the allegorical figure of Faith, bearing a Bible surmounted by a flaming heart, and to the right stands Courage, holding a column; both figures extend a laurel wreath above the king's head in a crowning gesture. The composition is richly detailed in the Baroque allegorical tradition, celebrating the king's dual roles as champion of Protestant faith and military commander. A Latin legend surrounds the scene.
