Additional information

George Frederick I of Brandenburg-Ansbach acquired the Duchy of Jägerndorf in 1543 through a hereditary arrangement within the Hohenzollern family, and his Silesian holdings placed him at the intersection of Lutheran reform politics and Habsburg administrative pressure for decades. A multiple-thaler issue of this weight — three struck pieces rather than a cast medallic equivalent — required deliberate coordination between the Jägerndorf mint and the estates, making each surviving example a product of specific political will rather than routine production.

Davenport's EC I listing under A9331 reflects the extreme rarity of documented specimens from this emission.
