Immediately behind the neck in the legend field, a crowned twofold Hungarian shield is placed, while the Madonna standing on a crescent appears to the right in the field. The effigy is rendered in the high-relief Baroque style characteristic of mid-17th century Habsburg coinage. The circumferential legend runs in Latin around the full periphery. |

Ferdinand III inherited the Hungarian crown in 1637, ruling simultaneously as Holy Roman Emperor through some of the most destructive years of the Thirty Years' War. The production of multiple-thaler pieces in this period was less about circulation than about demonstration — large silver was minted for diplomatic gifts, military payments to senior commanders, and court presentation. Most examples spent their lives in cabinets rather than pockets, which accounts for the relatively high survival rate in presentable condition.
The dual CNH and H references reflect ongoing scholarly disagreement about die marriages within this type. H#1234 and H#1235 represent distinct varieties, a distinction that CNH III#332 and #333 similarly acknowledge.
