Obverse description Central device features a royal crown surmounting a triangular arrangement of three fleurs-de-lis, the traditional heraldic emblems of the French monarchy. The crown is rendered in fine detail with arched bands and a circlet base. The three fleurs-de-lis are disposed in a two-over-one arrangement in the field below the crown. The circular legend around the periphery reads LOUIS XVI R. DE FR. ET DE NAV., identifying the issuing monarch as Louis XVI, King of France and Navarre.
