The 3 Shahi denomination reflects Afghanistan's transitional monetary reckoning during Amanullah Khan's reformist reign — 1 Shahi equaled 5 Paisa, making this piece worth 15 Paisa, a conversion that confused traders accustomed to the older system long after the coins entered circulation. Amanullah's broader modernization push, which ultimately contributed to his overthrow in 1929, was already visible in his currency policy by the early 1920s.
