| Aanvullende informatie |
Fruttuaria, founded in 1003 by William of Volpiano near what is now San Benigno Canavese in Piedmont, held coining rights as part of its imperial privileges — a grant that was legally contested almost continuously by the Duchy of Savoy throughout the sixteenth century. Sebastiano Ferrero served as commendatory abbot, a lay appointment that had nothing to do with monastic life and everything to do with the political economy of northern Italian ecclesiastical patronage.
The CNI records only a single specimen for this type.
