3 Roubles Temple of Saint Martin The Confessor

The Church of Saint Martin the Confessor in Moscow — formally known as the Church of the Ascension — was built between 1792 and 1806, its design attributed to Rodion Kazakov and modeled loosely on the Panthéon in Paris. It survived the 1812 French occupation badly damaged and was subsequently restored, only to be stripped and converted into a bread distribution center during the Soviet period. The 2012 commemorative issue is part of Russia's long-running architectural monuments series, which has produced well over two hundred distinct silver pieces since the 1990s.
