The Independent Army (Добровольческая армия) controlled much of the northern Caucasus in 1918, and the chronic shortage of small-denomination currency in the region forced a patchwork of local emergency issues. This note was authorized under the Piatigorsk-Batalpashchinsk Company framework — a short-lived administrative structure covering territory between the Kuban and Terek rivers during the White movement's early, fragile phase of territorial control.

The Kislovodsk branch attribution is significant: the State Bank network was being cannibalized by whichever force held a given town that week, and notes issued under its imprimatur carried only as much authority as the guns behind them.
