The Moscow Art Theatre — founded in 1898 by Konstantin Stanislavski and Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko — fundamentally changed how actors were trained and how plays were staged across the Western world. The system Stanislavski developed there became the direct ancestor of Method acting as practiced in twentieth-century American theatre and film. The institution turns 126 in 2024, which prompted this commemorative issue under the Bank of Russia's ongoing cultural series.
