Reverse description The central field, rendered with a mirror-polished finish, depicts two judoka in a dynamic competition scene, capturing the athleticism and technique of the sport. Above this central motif, arcing along the upper rim, the legend ЧЕМПИОНАТ МИРА ПО ДЗЮДО (World Judo Championship) is inscribed. On the lower matted field, the inscription ЧЕЛЯБИНСК (Chelyabinsk) appears to the left, accompanied by a decorative motif of Japanese cherry blossom, while the year 2014 is placed to the right, identifying the host city and date of the championship.

Additional information

Issued to mark Russia's hosting of the 2014 World Judo Championships in Chelyabinsk, this is one of dozens of commemorative three-rouble silver pieces the Bank of Russia has struck for sporting events over the past two decades — a program so prolific that secondary market premiums over melt are minimal for most issues in the series. Chelyabinsk was a deliberate choice of venue, a closed Soviet-era city only opened to foreigners in 1992, selected partly to signal regional development in the Urals.
