Reverse description The reverse presents an allegorical composition symbolising humanity at the threshold of the new millennium. At the centre stands a classically rendered male figure in the round, arms outstretched in a da Vinci-inspired pose, flanked by a leafy tree representing nature. To the left, symbols of information technology — a personal computer, satellite dish, and telephone — are depicted in relief, while to the right industrial imagery including gears and mechanical components evokes modern production. The Cyrillic legend РОССИЯ НА РУБЕЖЕ ТЫСЯЧЕЛЕТИЙ (Russia on the Threshold of the Millennium) curves along the lower rim, all set against a deeply mirrored proof field.

Additional information

Part of a six-coin thematic series issued by the Bank of Russia at the turn of the millennium, this piece belongs to a program that explored philosophical and humanist themes rather than the historical or commemorative subjects that dominate Russian numismatic output. The series drew little attention at the time of issue and was produced in modest quantities, leaving it undercollected relative to its age.
