Opmerkingen

The Khorezm People's Soviet Republic was a short-lived Soviet client state established in 1920 on the ruins of the Khanate of Khiva, itself abolished after Bolshevik forces ousted the last khan. The republic maintained nominal independence until 1923, when it was reorganized as the Khorezm Soviet Socialist Republic before being dissolved entirely into the USSR in 1924. This note is a product of that brief window of quasi-sovereign monetary activity.

The 1922 Khorezm issues are among the more obscure Central Asian emissions of the early Soviet period. Printing infrastructure in the region was extremely limited, and the series is known for rough production quality.
