Obverse lettering 3 Reis
Reverse description The reverse displays the large numeral '3' prominently in the upper field, with the word 'REIS' inscribed in capital letters beneath it in a curved arrangement, together forming the denomination '3 REIS'. The lettering is boldly rendered but of irregular form, consistent with the primitive hammered technique employed at the Diu mint. The field is flat and unadorned aside from the denomination, and the coin is encircled by a hatched or striated border matching that of the obverse. The overall design is functional and utilitarian, typical of small-denomination colonial copper coinage.
