Additional information

João V's copper coinage of this period was struck under chronic supply pressure — Portuguese mints struggled to source consistent copper throughout the 1720s, partly due to competing demand from the booming Brazil trade infrastructure. Dies for this denomination were reused aggressively, and specimens struck toward the end of the 1723–1733 run frequently show pronounced die fatigue.
