| Obverse description | Central device depicting a displayed imperial eagle with spread wings, rendered in a stylized late-medieval manner with detailed feathering. The eagle occupies the majority of the field and faces forward with wings outstretched. A beaded inner border frames the design. The circular Latin legend reading HERCVL ES·DVX· runs around the periphery, referencing Duke Ercole I d'Este. The strike is typical of hammered coinage, resulting in a slightly irregular flan. |
