Obverse description Crowned quartered shield bearing the city arms of Riga with a grid motif at centre, set within a beaded or linear border and encircled by a continuous Latin legend divided by colons. The crown rises above the top of the shield, and the four quarters display the alternating heraldic devices of Swedish royal authority and the city. The legend names Charles XII as King of Sweden by the grace of God.
