| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin featuring a central square perforation surrounded by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion within a plain inner square border. The four-character reign legend 明命通寶 (Minh Mạng Thông Bảo) is disposed in the traditional clockwise reading order — top, right, bottom, left — rendered in regular script (kaishu) relief against a flat field. The characters are boldly cast with moderate relief, showing the characteristic broad strokes of Vietnamese imperial coinage of the Nguyễn period. A plain outer rim encircles the field, and the overall surfaces display an olive-green patina consistent with aged brass. |
