背面描述 Within a central circle, the Roman numeral 'III' is depicted as three vertical bars above the inscription 'III PFENNING' and the date '1743' in two lines. A circular legend surrounds the central device reading 'HOCH.FURST.PADERBORN.LANDT MUNTZ', identifying this as a territorial land coinage of the Prince-Bishopric of Paderborn. The outer border is decorated with a pronounced radial milled pattern. The overall design is characteristic of small-denomination ecclesiastical coinage of the Holy Roman Empire in the mid-eighteenth century.

附加信息

Clemens August of Bavaria held an extraordinary concentration of ecclesiastical power — simultaneously serving as Prince-Bishop of Paderborn, Münster, Osnabrück, and Hildesheim, while also holding the archbishopric of Cologne. This small copper issue from Paderborn was struck under that same authority, one of several parallel coinages he maintained across his overlapping territorial jurisdictions during the 1740s.

His court at Brühl, not his episcopal seats, consumed most of his attention and revenue — the palace and gardens there were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site centuries later, financed in no small part by the taxation apparatus these petty coin issues helped to underpin.
