Anhalt-Zerbst was among the smallest and most financially strained of the German territorial subdivisions, and billon issues like this one reflect the chronic silver shortage that plagued minor principalities throughout the post-Westphalian decades. John George II ruled Zerbst from 1660 until his death in 1667, a brief reign that produced a thin coinage record. KM#10 is one of the scarcer types from his tenure, partly because the principality's mint operated intermittently and lacked the output capacity of larger neighboring states.
