Adam Wenceslaus, Duke of Teschen, converted from Lutheranism to Catholicism in 1609 under direct pressure from Emperor Rudolf II — a politically calculated move that secured his rule but alienated much of his Protestant nobility. This coin falls in the immediate aftermath of that conversion, minted as the duchy was being pulled firmly back into the Habsburg orbit. Teschen's output from this period is sparse, and small silver denominations like this were struck in limited quantities for local circulation in a region administratively sandwiched between Bohemia and the Polish crown.
