Jobst Edmund von Brabeck served as Prince-Bishop of Hildesheim from 1688 until his death in 1702, one of the few in that seat to navigate the turbulent confessional politics of the Lower Saxon Circle without significant territorial loss. This small silver piece was struck during a period when the Bishopric maintained its Catholic enclaves tenaciously amid a predominantly Lutheran region — minor denominations like this circulated alongside coinage of neighboring Protestant powers with little friction, currency needs overriding confessional loyalties at the market level.
