Reuss-Lobenstein was among the smallest of the Thuringian Reuss principalities, a patchwork of micro-states whose rulers all shared the name Heinrich by dynastic convention — numbered sequentially across the entire Reuss family rather than within individual lines. Henry XXXV reigned over Lobenstein from 1782 until his death in 1805, leaving almost no time after this issue before the line required a new numeral entirely. The principality itself was absorbed into Reuss-Ebersdorf in 1824, rendering its independent coinage a short-lived affair spanning just a handful of types.
