Obverse description The city arms of Wismar displayed centrally in the field, consisting of a quartered shield with the characteristic heraldic devices of the city, supported by decorative mantling or scrollwork on either side. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading MONETA NOVA WISMARIENSIS, denoting the coin as new coinage of the city of Wismar. The overall composition reflects the municipal heraldic tradition typical of late eighteenth-century north German civic coinage.
